Van Meter is a town of 866 residents located near the Raccoon River in southwest Dallas County. Van Meter was platted in 1868 and named in honor of Jacob Van Meter. It is 1.5 miles south of Interstate 80 and ten minutes from the Des Moines metro.

Because of its excellent location, Van Meter provides small town living with access to "big city" amenities. We are a community that prides itself on its quality of life and services provided by local foundations, volunteers and boards.
